West Ham United have completed the signing of El Hadji Malick Diouf from Slavia Prague on a long term contract, with the deal reported to be worth £19 million. The highly rated 20-year-old Senegalese defender becomes the club’s latest addition as they look to strengthen under new manager Graham Potter.
Diouf arrives at the London Stadium following an impressive stint in the Czech First League, where he played a key role in Slavia Prague’s title-winning campaign. In just 24 appearances, he notched seven goals and three assists from defence numbers that highlight both his attacking threat and positional intelligence.
His performances also extended to Europe, as Diouf featured in all 12 of Slavia’s Champions League and Europa League fixtures last season, gaining valuable experience at the highest level of club competition.
Internationally, Diouf is already part of a historic moment for Senegal. He featured in their 3-1 victory over England in June making Senegal the first African nation to beat the Three Lions. He made his senior debut just months earlier, in a September 2024 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Burundi.
After spells in Norway with Tromsø, where he scored three goals in 21 appearances, and then in Prague, Diouf is no stranger to adapting to new environments. His move to West Ham adds him to a growing legacy of Senegalese players at the club, including Demba Ba, Papa Bouba Diop, Cheikhou Kouyaté, and Diafra Sakho.
Speaking about his decision, Diouf said:
“There were a lot of teams [who wanted to sign me], but I chose West Ham United first. I spoke with the coach and it was a good plan for me so that’s why I chose here.”
Manager Graham Potter was equally enthusiastic about the signing, praising the defender’s maturity and mindset:
“He has shown tremendous strength of character and maturity at such a young age – leaving his home in Senegal to move to Norway at 18, and then moving on to Prague – and his performances have been at a consistently high level.”
Capable of playing at left-back or left wing-back, Diouf is expected to join West Ham’s pre-season camp in Germany this week. With a new manager, a refreshed squad, and a player eager to prove himself in the Premier League, the 2025/26 season is shaping up to be an intriguing chapter for both West Ham and Diouf alike.
