Saga, the well known provider of holidays and insurance for the over 50s, is launching a new range of savings products in partnership with NatWest. The first account, an instant access saver, is expected to be available later this year, with more options to follow.
Saga, which is not a bank itself, previously offered its savings products in collaboration with Goldman Sachs. The new partnership with NatWest will replace this arrangement, but existing customers will not be affected. The company has stated that the new accounts are designed to “cater for the distinct needs and preferences of people over 50.”
However, financial experts are cautioning consumers to compare deals before committing. While the new accounts may offer convenience and a trusted brand name, they don’t necessarily guarantee the best interest rates on the market.
A recent analysis showed that some other providers are offering better returns on their instant access accounts. For example, some top rate accounts are offering rates of around 5% AER, while the Saga instant access account with its 12 month bonus is at 4.01%. Other accounts, like those from Chase and Cahoot, also offer higher rates without the age specific marketing.
For savers with large balances who value simplicity, platforms like Saga’s can be appealing, as they allow access to multiple accounts through a single login. However, for those seeking the highest possible returns, shopping around remains the most effective strategy.
