Tristan Tate has landed himself in hot water again this time, not for his usual controversies, but for allegedly violating Romanian election laws by posting political content during the country’s presidential election.
The Romanian authorities say his social media post on election day may have contained “explicit or implicit” political messaging a no-go under local electoral rules. Ilfov County police opened the investigation after receiving an official complaint.
Tristan, 36, is due to be questioned on Tuesday. His older brother Andrew is not involved in this particular case for once.
“I’m in Dubai, On an American Platform, Talking Politics…”
In a now-viral video posted to X, Tristan defended himself in true Tate fashion, insisting he wasn’t campaigning just “an American man, on an American platform, in Dubai,” talking politics. Basically: “Laws? Not my timezone.”
A Long List of Legal Luggage
This is far from the Tate brothers’ only legal drama. They’re already under investigation in Romania over serious charges including human trafficking, rape, and sex with a minor. Both deny everything and claim to be, in their words, “very innocent men.”
They were arrested back in 2022, held under house arrest for months, and faced fresh charges in 2024. Over in the UK, 21 more charges are waiting ranging from trafficking to assault.
Romanian courts have ruled the brothers can only be extradited to the UK once their Romanian cases are done which, at this rate, may outlast a Netflix documtory.
Travel Ban Lifted, Jet Set Life Resumes
Despite all that, prosecutors lifted a two-year travel ban in early 2025. The Tates promptly flew to Florida by private jet, posted selfies, and returned to Romania a month later, declaring:
“Innocent men don’t run from anything.”
(Though they do fly business class.)
Influence, Infractions, and an Ongoing Saga
With over 13 million followers between them, the Tate brothers are more than influencers they’re a walking PR crisis. Romania’s latest probe may seem small next to the rest of their legal woes, but it adds another layer to an already jam packed rap sheet.
