Nineteen years after we first learned about the deep importance of cerulean blue, the fashion world is ready to tell us what to wear all over again. The Devil Wears Prada 2 hits screens this Friday. It seems the industry decided we simply have not had enough instruction on our personal style since the noughties.
The internet predictably exploded when the trailer dropped. People spent days arguing over a pair of red Valentino Rockstuds worn by Meryl Streep. Critics called them outdated. Fashion fans called them a clever nod to nostalgia. It turns out the costume team did it on purpose just to stir up drama. And guess what? It worked perfectly. Searches for the shoes surged across second hand sites. Valentino is even bringing the style back. Fashion is just a giant recycling bin, and we are the ones happy to fish through the trash for the right price.
It proves that the famous cerulean monologue from the first film was not just a movie script. It was a warning. The sequel is already doing the heavy lifting for brands. If you want to copy Andy Sachs before her makeover, high street shops are already selling themed collections. The film acts as a two hour advert that tells you exactly what to buy, and we will probably line up to purchase it all.
We get to see our favourites return. Andy is back, along with the sharp tailoring of Nigel and the impeccably dressed Emily. The costume designer, Molly Rogers, kept the DNA of these characters while updating their look for 2026. Expect sharp shoulders for Miranda and plenty of high fashion references. It is a feast for the eyes, even if your bank account might suffer the consequences.
Whether you care about the plot or just want to see if the outfits are better than the acting, you will probably watch it. Just try not to buy every single thing you see on screen. You do not need another pair of shoes you will stop wearing by next winter.
