Ed Sheeran has turned his creative energy toward a different kind of canvas. The singer-songwriter, known globally for chart topping singles and sold-out tours, is now exhibiting a series of abstract paintings at the Heni Gallery in Soho.
The exhibition, titled Cosmic Carpark Paintings, opened on July 11 and runs until August 1. Entry is free and open to the public, with no appointments necessary.
The collection, made up of large scale works created in a disused London car park, features Sheeran’s take on the drip-and-splatter aesthetic popularised by artists like Jackson Pollock. The paintings were produced between tour dates over the last few years, with Sheeran describing the practice as a daily ritual during breaks in his touring schedule.
The works are also available for purchase, with proceeds supporting The Ed Sheeran Foundation, a charity focused on expanding access to music education for young people.
Encouragement to exhibit came from high-profile artist Damien Hirst and Heni founder Joe Hage, both of whom backed Sheeran’s shift into the visual arts. With roots in an artistic family both his parents worked in the art world this latest creative venture may feel more like a homecoming than a side project.
