The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is basically a high school yearbook for people with leather trousers and questionable hearing. This year, the organisers have gone on a British spending spree. A record six UK acts have made the cut, including the Manchester masters of sibling rivalry, Oasis. It seems the Americans have finally forgiven us for the Revolutionary War, or perhaps they just really like Definitely Maybe.
The 2026 list reads like a very loud pub quiz. Joining Oasis are the heavy metal pilots of Iron Maiden, the smooth jazz vibes of Sade, and the punk snarl of Billy Idol. We also have Phil Collins picking up his second trophy and a joint award for Joy Division and New Order. It is a massive haul for the UK, especially considering that back in 2021, the Hall of Fame completely ignored British music.
Liam Gallagher Plays Nice
For years, Liam Gallagher treated the idea of the Hall of Fame like a cold plate of chips. He once famously called the organisers geriatrics in cowboy hats. However, now that the invitation has actually arrived, he has suddenly discovered his polite side. He joked on social media about bringing a box of chocolates and flowers to apologise for his ignorance.
It is a classic case of reverse psychology. One minute you are slagging off the establishment, and the next you are dreaming about the Hall of Fame while singing in the shower. His brother Noel is being a bit more stubborn, having previously said it won’t be happening. Still, with an Oasis reunion tour selling out stadiums, the organisers are probably hoping for a miracle on stage in Los Angeles.
Metal, Gloom, and Smooth Operators
Iron Maiden have finally been let in after years of being left on the doorstep. Their singer, Bruce Dickinson, once suggested the organisers should stop taking pills and start drinking beer. Clearly, his charm offensive worked. Their manager put out a statement saying it is nice to be recognised, even if the band prefers their fans to industry shiny things.
Then we have Sade, who is actually more popular in America than she is at home. She is the first British Black woman to be inducted, proving that being a smooth operator pays off in the long run. At the other end of the mood scale, Joy Division and New Order are being honoured together. This might be a bit awkward, as founding member Peter Hook still doesn’t speak to the rest of the band. He promised to see everyone on the night, which sounds more like a threat than an invitation.
The Great British No-Show
British rock stars have a long and proud history of being difficult. Paul McCartney skipped the Beatles’ induction because he was annoyed about business deals. The Sex Pistols sent a letter calling the whole thing urine in wine. David Bowie didn’t even bother to give an excuse, leaving Madonna to collect his trophy.
Billy Idol, on the other hand, is absolutely buzzing. He performed on American Idol to celebrate the news, looking like he is still enjoying the 1980s. Phil Collins also shared his joy, saying it wraps up a wonderful life in music. It is a nice sentiment from a man who has spent half his career being the most successful drummer on the planet.
The actual party happens on 14 November at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles. Whether we get a full Oasis reunion or a massive Manchester brawl remains to be seen. Either way, the British are taking over the rock and roll retirement home in style.

Do you think a Hall of Fame actually matters to rock stars, or is it just another excuse for an expensive dinner?
