Paige Bueckers, the star player for the Dallas Wings, has been named the WNBA Rookie of the Year after a fantastic debut season. The number one overall draft pick received 70 out of 72 votes from sportswriters and broadcasters for the award, making her the first Dallas Wings player to win the honour since Allisha Gray in 2017.
Bueckers had one of the best rookie seasons in league history. She averaged 19.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. Her total of 692 points and 194 assists were the third highest ever by a WNBA rookie.
One of the highlights of her season was a remarkable 44 point performance in a game against the Los Angeles Sparks. This was not only the highest single game point total in the WNBA for the season but also a new record for a rookie. In that same game, she became the first player in league history to score 40 or more points while shooting at least 80% from the field.
Her strong season also included a 30 game streak of scoring in double digits, which is the third longest streak to start a career in the league.
