Oscar Piastri has claimed victory at the rain-delayed Belgian Grand Prix, holding off his teammate Lando Norris in a thrilling finish. The win, which came after a significant delay due to heavy rain, has further cemented Piastri’s place at the front of the driver standings.
The race, held at the challenging Circuit de Spa Francorchamps, was delayed by over an hour, leaving drivers in a tricky pit stop situation. But once the green flag was waved, Piastri wasted no time. He made a daring move on the very first racing lap to overtake Norris, a manoeuvre that truly put him in pole position for the rest of the race.
This win marks the Australian’s sixth victory of the season, extending his lead over Norris in the championship by 16 points. It was a perfect day for the McLaren team, who secured their sixth one two finish of the season. Charles Leclerc of Ferrari rounded out the podium, finishing in third place.
Piastri’s winning strategy was a bold one, with a successful one stop run that saw him switch to medium tyres on lap 12 and make them last for the entire race. Norris, who pitted a lap later for hard tyres, couldn’t quite close the gap, finishing just over three seconds behind. Piastri’s latest success makes him the first Australian to win six races in a single season, a record that puts him in the fast lane for a historic year.
