India completed the biggest successful chase in women’s ODI history to claim a spectacular five wicket win over defending champions Australia, punching their ticket to the Women’s World Cup final. This semi final, played in Navi Mumbai, was instantly labelled a classic after India chased down a mammoth 339 to secure a final showdown against South Africa.

Rodrigues’ Brilliance: The 25 year-old right hander was the anchor and the accelerator, moving at a run a ball pace in her aggressive start before anchoring the innings. She achieved her hundred from 115 balls and remained unbeaten on 127 runs, securing the win with nine balls to spare. Her redemption arc is now complete, having been dropped earlier in the tournament after recording two ducks. Rodrigues, who finished the game in tears of joy, confessed: “I have cried almost every day in this World Cup with anxiety but God took everything for me. Today was not about my 50 or my 100, it was about making India win.”
Captain’s Power: Harmanpreet Kaur’s knock of 89 was equally vital, benefiting from an early reprieve on 10 runs before finding her rhythm.

Australia’s Costly Butterfingers

Australia, the seven time winners, had chances to extinguish India’s fight, but their fielding was riddled with errors, which will haunt them for years.
