World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler had a rough round… in the kitchen. The reigning PGA Tour Player of the Year managed to injure himself in the most domestic way possible while preparing Christmas dinner.
Scheffler reportedly sliced the palm of his right hand on broken glass, resulting in a puncture wound that required surgery to remove lingering fragments. While it’s not the kind of cut he’s used to dealing with, doctors say he should be back in three to four weeks.
Unfortunately, the injury has ruled him out of next week’s season opener at The Sentry in Hawaii. He’s now eyeing a return at The American Express tournament in California on January 16 assuming he stays out of the kitchen.
The 28-year-old has been unstoppable on the course lately, racking up seven PGA Tour wins, an Olympic gold, and securing the Player of the Year title for the third consecutive season.
But 2024 hasn’t been all birdies. In May, Scheffler made headlines for an off-course run-in with police during the PGA Championship in Louisville, where he was arrested after allegedly trying to bypass a traffic jam caused by a fatal accident. He was released within hours, returned to finish his round, and all charges were later dropped due to lack of evidence and the small detail that the officer hadn’t turned on his bodycam.
Scheffler’s aiming to get back to what he does best: dominating on the fairway, not dicing in the kitchen.
