Bristol voice over artist Faye Dicker recently experienced this horror firsthand when she found her own voice for sale on an American artificial intelligence website called Fish Audio. Without her knowledge or permission, absolute strangers had downloaded her cloned voice over nine hundred times. Dicker naturally expressed complete disbelief, pointing out that she has zero idea who bought her voice or what dodgy statements they forced her digital twin to say. Fish Audio quickly deleted the clone after the outrage, claiming they take recognisable voices seriously. However, sweeping up after a digital robbery hardly fixes the broken system.
Why UK AI Laws Are Completely Rubbish
Media legal expert Dr Mathilde Pavis warns that UK legislation is now thoroughly unfit for purpose because politicians drafted our privacy laws long before this technology existed. While countries like France, Italy, Denmark, and the Netherlands enforce strict personality rights to safeguard citizens, the UK leaves a massive legal loophole. Anyone with basic software can hijack your identity, clone your face, and copy your vocal cords without breaking explicit statutory laws.
