A dentist from Colorado, James Craig, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of his wife. Craig was found guilty of a calculated plot to poison her over several days.

The trial revealed that Craig had been secretly poisoning his wife’s protein shakes. When these initial attempts failed, he administered a final, fatal dose of cyanide to her while she was in hospital.

Evidence presented in court showed that before her death, Craig had searched online for terms such as “how to make murder look like a heart attack” and “is arsenic detectable in an autopsy?” The prosecution argued that Craig’s motive was to end his marriage to protect his financial interests and image, as he was engaged in multiple affairs. The jury rejected his claim that he was assisting his wife in taking her own life.

In addition to first degree murder, Craig was convicted of several other serious charges, including attempting to cover up the killing. The conviction and sentence conclude a shocking case that drew significant public attention.
