Well, isn’t this exciting news for us boxing fans! The WBO has officially stepped in and ordered unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk to face their interim champion, Joseph Parker. It looks like we’ve got another big heavyweight clash on the horizon!

These two teams now have 30 days to hash out the details for what will be a mandatory defence of Usyk’s WBO title. If they can’t come to an agreement, the WBO will open a purse bid, and we all know what that means: a minimum of one million dollars up for grabs! That should certainly get everyone’s attention, right?

Usyk, who’s been holding that WBO belt since he famously snatched it from Anthony Joshua in 2021 (along with the WBA and IBF titles), has been a busy man. He’s defended it four times and even added the WBC belt to his collection by beating Tyson Fury to become the unified champion. Last year, he did briefly let the IBF belt go when he decided to go for the Fury rematch instead of facing Daniel Dubois. But, in classic Usyk fashion, he knocked out Dubois just recently to regain the IBF belt and undisputed status. What a champ!

As for Parker, our New Zealand powerhouse, he clinched the interim WBO championship last year with a win over Zhilei Zhang and then successfully defended it by knocking out Martin Bakole in February. He’s clearly ready for his shot at the top.

So, get ready for some serious negotiations, because it seems the WBO wants to see Usyk and Parker go head-to-head. It’s going to be a cracker, I’m sure!

What do you think, who comes out on top in this one?
