A US technology company at the centre of a viral video has released a new, playful clip featuring actress Gwyneth Paltrow to put a positive spin on the situation. The company’s original video went viral after its CEO and Chief People Officer were filmed on a kiss cam at a Coldplay concert, an event that led to both executives resigning.
In a clever move to manage the fallout, the firm, Astronomer, brought in Paltrow—the ex-wife of Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin as a “very temporary spokesperson.” In the new video, Paltrow directly addresses the bizarre situation in a tongue in cheek manner.
While she acknowledges the public attention, she quickly pivots the conversation to focus on the company’s business. She answers a range of questions, consistently redirecting the dialogue back to promoting Astronomer’s data services and an upcoming conference in September.
The company’s new interim CEO, Pete DeJoy, has embraced the newfound attention, describing the situation as “unusual and surreal.” He stated that the marketing stunt was an attempt to capitalise on the moment and turn the company into a “household name.” The move appears to be a calculated effort to reclaim the narrative and channel the public’s curiosity towards their professional work.
